Hey there,
I recently had a challenging experience when one of my client's WordPress websites got hacked. It was a frustrating situation, especially when the hosting provider wasn't able to provide sufficient support to get the website back to normal. But I rolled up my sleeves, dove into the file manager, deleted malicious files, and even applied to Google to remove the flag.

In this blog post, I want to share my journey and provide you with a beginner-friendly guide on how to reclaim your hacked WordPress website. Let's get started!
Assess the Damage and Identify the Hack:
The first step is to assess the damage and identify the hack. Take a deep breath and carefully examine your website's files, directories, and database for any suspicious or unfamiliar elements. Look out for unexpected files, modified code, or unusual behavior on your site.
Backup, Backup, Backup:
Before making any changes, create a backup of your website. This step is crucial as it allows you to revert to a clean version if anything goes wrong during the recovery process. Backup your files, database, and any other relevant data to a secure location.
Remove Malicious Files:
With the backup in place, it's time to get rid of those pesky malicious files. Access your website's file manager through your hosting provider's control panel or via FTP. Identify the infected files and delete them. Ensure you are cautious and only delete files that are confirmed as malicious.
Strengthen Your Website's Security:
Preventing future attacks is essential. Take this opportunity to strengthen your website's security measures. Update your WordPress core, themes, and plugins to their latest versions. Install a reliable security plugin like wordfence and consider implementing measures like two-factor authentication and strong passwords to fortify your defenses.
Request Google to Remove the Flag:
When a website is hacked, Google may flag it as potentially harmful, which can negatively impact your search rankings and user trust. Submit a reconsideration request to Google via the Google Search Console, explaining the actions you've taken to clean up your website. Be patient as it may take some time for Google to review and remove the flag.
Learn from the Experience:
A hacking incident can be a valuable learning experience. Reflect on what happened, identify any vulnerabilities that may have contributed to the hack, and take steps to address them. Regularly update your website, use secure plugins and themes, and educate yourself about common security practices.
Conclusion:
Recovering a hacked WordPress website is undoubtedly a daunting task, but with determination and the right steps, you can reclaim your online presence. Remember to assess the damage, create backups, remove malicious files, strengthen your website's security, and request Google to remove the flag. Take this experience as an opportunity to enhance your website's security and protect it from future attacks.
